Ohio - Best State Yet?

6/28/09 ~ After a great nights sleep, we thanked Francie for her hospitality, grabbed some breakfast at the local Tim Hortons and rolled onwards through Ohio. We planned to attend to church today and decided to get alittle riding in before we found someplace to worship. So, we got some good miles in and rode through the Ohio countryside. It was starting to get hilly and we knew we were leaving the flatness of the midwest behind.
We stopped in the small town of Martinsburg and found a local church to attend. The worship was great and the sermon delivered was uplifting. It was nice to get into church and refocus. There we met a really nice woman who ended up asking us to join her and her husband for lunch at the local diner. We gladly accepted and had a great lunch of burgers and ice cream. Afterwards, we were surprised with a barbershop quartet of four woman who performed and incredible a capella rendition of "On the Road Again". It sure was hard to do that after the hospitality we were shown.
Moving onwards, we hit major hills and ran into problems when Dietrich broke a spoke. He quickly hitchhiked forward to Coshocton where Bobby and Seth joined him. There Bobby and Seth watched the US soccer game while Dietrich searched high and low for a way to fix his spook. When all hope was lost, he randomly met a couple in an empty parking lot who miraculously had all the tools he needed to fix his rim. Talk about a miracle and answer to prayer. We moved onwards to our destination of Newcomerstown.
In Newcomerstown, we got connected with a local Methodist church who were kind enough to let us sleep in a little section of their church. We were glad to have a place to stay and got supper at the local pizza diner where we met the mayor of the town. We talked with him and his wife and they were kind enough to pay for our dinner. Boy are we so blessed! Seth even enjoyed music of the jukebox. To top the night off we rode downtown and got ice cream at the local shop. We live the high life on this trip and are so blessed. It was a great day.

  1. Seth: There is not a prouder Grandpa than the one you have in Boiling Springs. I am amazed that this trip has gone so well for all of you. This adventure needs to written about if only because you guys did this by yourselves. No fancy chase car with equipment, no cheerleaders y6elling encouragement from the window of the car. Just sheer guts and determination is what you all have . Keep it going to the end

  3. When will you arrive in Lubec, Maine? I am a reporter for the local newspaper the Quoddy Tides and would like to take a photo of your group at West Quoddy Light or the Lubec town line sign.
