First McDonalds in 10 days!

6-8-09 ~ Waking up to  frost is never fun in June! It was so cold that the dew on our tent had frozen. We had to keep moving so we strapped it to the outside of the BOB hoping it would dry. Kathy treated us all to Coffee and after a breakfast of bagels and peanut butter, we rode into the freezing cold. The map told us we were to go over a pass but we hardly noticed that we were climbing because the grade was so shallow. We finally came over the summit and had the most incredible descent into Ridgeway with the San Miguel range to our left. It was so beautiful.
We stopped in Ridgeway and than continued descending to Montrose where we McDonalds, something we hadn't seen since the western side of Utah. McDoubles and Soda never tasted so good. Walmart also gave us some sweet deals on food that we would keep for that evening. We climbed out of Montrose and descended into Cimarron. Than we climbed out of Cimarron and descended into Sapinero. Those were some miserable miles because we would climb and get all sweaty only to begin descending where we would get freezing cold.
In Sapinero, we stopped at a campground that overlooked the Blue Mesa Lake. It was beautiful. We feasted on Ravioli and Ramen Noodles. Miraculously, there was internet connection and a shower in the shady looking Cabin that was the office. We worked on the blog for a little bit and than hit the sack, nervous for the next day which entailed Monarch Pass and crossing the continental divide.

Stats - 88 miles
