The Long One, 120 miles

6-16-09 ~ We woke up that morning, to Bobby's usual "Rise and Shine!" at 6 AM sharp. It was tough getting out of those comfortable beds, but we knew we had a long ride ahead of us. I also think it being our first night in the Central time zone caused a sort of "jetlag" as well.
We got ready, and found for ourselves a great breakfast of incredible Quiche, made with Alex's famous "meatballs" as well, it was a beautiful breakfast to start us off on our 120 mile ride that day. We were slightly nervous, as anything, such as a slight headwind or rain could ruin our expectations to make it to the town of Osborne.
We ate our breakfast with the family, and began rolling down Highway 24 around 7:30, it was tough leaving our great hosts, the Dumler family, but we must push east.
3 hours, and 60 miles later, we found ourselves sitting in the town of Hill City. We were excited we were already there, and because we were making such great time, average 21 mph, we decided to make just a quick and hit the road again while the winds were right. The next 30 miles went just as beautifully as the prior miles, and we found ourselves 90 miles in, by 12:00, just in time for lunch. We were again so thankful and excited that the ride was going as smooth as it was, and were so glad that we finally, had that slight tailwind we've been waiting for. We ate the lunch of Ham sandwhiches and that Mrs. Dumler so graciously made for us, and we continued East yet again, hoping to make it to Osborne, by 3:00.
Yet again, the remaining 30 miles went just as before, averaging 21 mph and we made it to our final destination by 3:00. We could not have asked for a greater ride, thank God indeed.
We rolled in and immediatley found our next connect, which Mr. Dumler found for us, a fellow co-worker of his, Bob Conway. That was great, rolling into a town after 120 miles in 90 degree heat, and already having a house to stay in.
Mr. Conway welcomed us and showed us where we would stay that night, he also told us he'd be cooking us dinner as well. Wow, we just could not ask for anymore from Kansans. We relaxed that afternoon, and ate a great meal of hamburgers, potatoe salad, macaroni salad and chips. To end the whole evening, we yet again watched a movie and hit the sack.
This state may be wide, long, hot, humid and flat, but its a great state with great people. Bob also told us, if we could make it to the town of Manhattan the next day, he would have us a place to stay there too.
