Treated Like Kings

6/15/09 ~ After a good night sleep under the shelter of the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church, we woke up to Kathy Walker and a hearty breakfast of eggs, toast and biscuits. After much deliberation, Dietrich decided it would be best to take the day off, due to his ailing knee, so Dietrich hitchhiked the short 54 mile stretch from Sharon Springs to Oakley. Seth and Bobby did the easy ride and both agree that Dietrich did not miss much.... it was all flat fields as far as the eye could see. They made great time averaging over 21 mph (a new record for the trip) and actually beat Dietrich there. Kathy went out of her way again, and arranged for a house for us to stay at in Oakley, so upon arriving we got a hold of Alex, and went to his house. We got cleaned up, and his daughter Emily drove us to the library to update the blog, we saw the Fick Fossil Museum and the Buffalo Bill Statue. After climbing on the statue for awhile, we returned back to Alex's house to a spaghetti meal and cheesecake prepared by him and his wife Mary. The family really went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, we are truly blown away by the hospitality we were shown. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing, watching a movie, and an early bedtime as we knew we had a 120 mile ride the next day.
